Eve,
Most Taita names sound funny in their real kidawida meaning. Mwaipe, Mwashighadi, Mwanyoyi, Marura, Mkavita etc... Proberbly, you are not married to a Taita and hence your freedom to choose. I think about 80% of all Taita names are not progressive in your view. If we are to drop these names we loose a big backbone of our Identity. What is in a name really? It is subject to big debate but at the end of the day, It is just a name. Period. Remember we had at one time a PC in Nairobi called Mwakisha? Yes, he held big posts in the country and at one time he was also the Chairman of KPA. I know of a Mdawida professor based in Bostwana, he is called Mwakoshi.
Just a thought....

I would say name can never change ones character instead ones character and traits is within.....

E-smile, I Can't agree with you more.
There are so many people with good names yet their characters are sooooo bad. A name is just an identifier....mndu ukaniwanga ng'ombe sizoyagha kuja nyasi
Koko andu wandu wiko na marina sa wayesu, wamaria, wamlungu (translated to kidawida) lakini agha mawiwi awa wandu wibonyere.......

ela pia its a free world :!:

It is sad to see the stand you've taken on this issue. Just understand this "to every matter (name or action) there is a spiritual implication whether we believe or not and what is even more sad is many will learn this when its to late to do anything about it."

Chawucha mimi kwa kureda ihi topic ya marina. manake wandu wanekana marina bila kumanya maana yake. Especially with this current generation our children have suffered ridicule and teasing in schools because of their names and these have contributed to great psychological toture.Ooops kidawida chalaghaya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Personally nawabadilisha irina japo so that i stop getting the repurcussion of the meaning coz I think the effect is there. eg kuwanga mwana wako Mwazuna, Mwawaya,Mwalaghaya, shungula, Mwatoa, Mlekenyi, Mka kidasi Sawau,Mwawasi Mwalola, Walegwa, Mkandoe, Majhala, Malemba, marasi, Ngasu, Ludindi, Mrasi, Mwaluda, Shighadi, Mwambisi, Mapemba,Kisuka What does samba mean? Mwacharo no wonder they are always moving, Mwachofi, M'wongeri always drunk!!!!, Mwachoyo, Mazozo Mlaki(Someone who covets) Ooooooh my God ha ha ha !!!!!!( I died of laughter as I remembered some of these names!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! )Completely meaningless!!!!! or with awkward meanings. As a parent sikundagha kuneka mwana wapo marina sa agho yet there are many good names like, Irasimilo, Mvono, Mwasere, Mwangolo, Wakundwa, Lukundo, Mzuri, Kipusa, Kidoshi, Mwafwana,Kitonga. The list is endleess. History has it that most people become what their names signify. Come on guys let us give our children great names not those weird names. Have some KICHEKO. God bless you

sincerely as i was going through the list of the names....i could not help but laugh at some of them when u critically analyse their meaning       but as for me our identity has to be preserved regardless of the meaning

Eve.
