Let me take this opportunity to introduce Amsha Africa Foundation. Founded in the May 2008, Amsha Africa foundation is determined to enhance the living standards and common good of people within some of the worlds poorest villages and slums in Africa by reducing chronic social concerns such as hunger, disease, Illiteracy, unemployment substandard housing and poor sanitation. Please go to www.amshaafrica.org for more information.

Presently Amsha Africa is undertaking one of its projects in Mwatate Kenya in attempts to uplift the living standards of people. In addition, together with our partners we are running a sponsor a well project in constructing bore holes and wells within the region in attempts to curb the effect of the drought. To facilitate all our projects we have partnered with several Community Based Organizations running all across Taita, (Voi, Wundanyi, Mwatate and neglected regions like Mgeno).

These CBOs comprise of Taitas who form special groups with special interests.Unfortunately most of the groups have been neglected or cannot move due to financial or other constraints. As part of our Community Based Initiative, AmshaAfrica has united several of these CBO'S around Taita Taveta and formed one Umbrella Group called Mwamuko Mashinani Welfare Association, with the sole purpose of uplifting the Taita community in development.

During our initial start stages we had a tough time since we noticed the division among the community members. But with time, more and more groups are joining the Mwamuko Mashinaniand more members are willing to embrase development in Taita. Moreover AmshaAfrica is organizing an exhibition/fundraiser on the 24th of November 2009 in Mwatate, Mwatungeto showcase what members of each group can exhibit. Using this,we can be able to see the strengths and talents of people within Taita community. We will also use this exhibition to bring members from different parts of Taita and Mwatate District together as this will be a chance for them to embrase unity which has been lacking in the region. During the exhibition different groups will exhibit their products (for example a women group which specialises in making vidasis will use this chance to do the same). Likewise the groups will be competing to out do each other and from which professional judges will evaluate and reward the best exhibition.

We are planning to invite, using this event high profile members of the coast community, governmental officials, members of the diplomatic community, consulates and some of our funders. We will also invite members of press to take witness of this unique community based initiative to curb poverty using communal will.

We would like to partner with groups like yours that deal directly with Taitasto mobilize and publicise this event. You can join us in the organization so that we can make it a success. Please join our course in Facebook,Twitter, MySpace and Tagged on the same.

This is the way to go only be weary of ambitious politicians who might hijack this noble course. Give them a wide berth and you will surely get the support of investors from the region and beyond.

Nawona website ya "Amsha Africa", a Texas, USA registered NGO, and one of it's founders is a guy who works for UNEP, and I wonder why he is that interested in Taita. I guess it must be the biological diversity of our fauna and flora that interests this American. Mr Abuta has introduced himself well and I would like to believe that he is genuinely interested in Taitas and will be working with Wadawida to achieve some predetermined goals. I do not always believe that NGOs are always honest in what their true motives are. Just remember, development cannot be parachuted to the poor in Taita...........it will come from empowering the people to be responsible for their own destinies. As the Chinese say, teach a man to fish, instead of giving him fish from another place. Also, respect people's culture, traditional wisdom and desires.......do not go to Mwatate believing that you have all the solutions to their problems. Let the people guide you as to what their needs are. Of late, there have been too too many social studies about Taita people yet study after study identifies the same problems. Amsha Africa can help people by not imposing solutions but by working with the people of Mwatate to find solutions that can be sustained with local resources. Wadawida mkaiye meso nwa mmanye faida ya NGO ela msewiwange cha mighondinyi.......Dawida is sacred.

I am crossing my fingers that this NGO will turn out to really look out for the issues of people in dawida. So many of them have been started like you all said, but the money never helps the very needy person in the society. There are so many economical empowering projects that can be started in taita. We can do without the handouts and food rations if these were implemented and managed well. We hope that Amsha will make a difference.

After an assesment of their presentation during the function and all they have to say about themselves only then can we be in a position to categorise objectively there actual agenda.
