Have you had time to go through the draft constitution? What do you think about it? Do you feel the needs of kenyas are met in the new draft? Are the land laws good enough for the people of Taita? What touches you most on the new draft? What do you agree with and what don't you agree with?

No new posts The first Gay Marriage between two Kenyan Men In London

The first ever gay marriage between two kenyan men took place in London this month. This has opened up a huge discussion in Kenya and amongst Kenyans living abroad as well. The committe sitting to review the constitution refused to incorporate gay rights on the new constitution. Do you think it's about time the gay society was let to be? What is your opinion on this?

No new posts Was the census really needed? Or is it a waste of money?

Given the economic situation being experienced in kenya and the drought, famine just to mention a few..I tend to think that the timing of the census was off the scale. Millions are starving, thousands without jobs and the government spends money to count people? At the end of the day, what is the use of counting people who are dying in hunger? In my opinion, this is a waste of resources. The have provided jobs to a few individuals for 7 days..but what about the larger percentage? If this money was invested in hostpitals, then all deaths and births would be recorded. This would save the government alot of money and time. People in the villages could register with chiefs, people in towns could register with council. This would have been an ongoing excercise for a whole year. Call me biased, but in my opinion, the census is totally useless when millions are dying of hunger!

No new posts The brutal killing of a miner in Dawida

The brutal killing of the white miner is taita has left many questions un answered. Itis unfortunate that the old man had to die that way. I can not talk much about this because I do not know the facts for sure that led to his death apart from what was written in newspapers. Mwatate MP was qouted saying that the miner was very rude to the locals as he had no respect for black people. But that does not warranty the brutal way he was killed. The newspaper quoted the son of the killed miner saying that the whole mess has some political motives in it.The question is, does it? How did he get the land to start with? If he acquired the lease in an honest way, why all the remorse feelings between the miner and the locals? Too many questions that will need to be answered!!

No new posts Rare species of birds in Taita

Who says we do not have some beautiful tourists attractions apart from our great Tsavo which we share with out Kamba brothers?
Though our government has not marketed bird watching as a huge tourist attraction, many countries like south africa have benefited alot from bird watching tourism. The many rare birds species that many pay millions to get a glimpse of are in our great taita land.
Come to think of it when I was growing up there were so many species of birds that we took for granted that can actually lift our dawida if someone decides to market it.
Those species are found in the forests and biologists are worried that they are amongst endangered species.Soon these birds will be gone.
I think it is our duty as wadawida to protect these birds and hopefully we can start marketing dawida as a bird watching attraction.
Birds like mwangalanga are very rare.
Let us protect and benefit from the birds.

Admitting that Dawida is a beautiful place is an understatement. Taita rocks. I know of this very beautiful place in Mgange Nyika. When you stand right at the peak of mgange and view Nyika, the scenery for Nyika from Mgange is magnificent. I do not think I have ever seen such a view.
And there is this water fall in place called Ikonde(my grand ma's home). The waterfall was lovely. The river was called Kighononyi.Though I haven't had time to go back again, I still have the memories in my head..I believe there are many unique places in dawida...name them

What was the name of that ka-small hill near chamacha? How we knew the rally drivers by names haha, kina Patrick Njiru,...those were among some best childhood memories..
Then came the night mass..ooh and the discos at night hahaha, and the best part was the x-mass night mass. When I had a part in the x-mass play....how I miss such silly good times..oh and the chapati and pilau that came once or twice a year hahaha...God I love Taita..

Does anyone remember the 500Ml white cup? My dad was a huge fan of that brand. I associated that beer with him when I grew up.
Then there was the tree top. It only came once a year during x-mass. First they had the bottle one, then changed to the plastic bottle.
What about the tinned blue band? I still have a cut from one of the tins.
Oh yeah and maziwa ya nyayo.
Thinking back now, I appreciate all the things I had when I was growing up.

No new posts Black magic in Dawida

When you read the origin and culture of wadawida, you will find it interesting that there is a difference between wanganga(warighiti) and wachawi(wasawi). Warighiti are said to have been very important people in the dawida society; where else wasawi are said to be shunned off by society. We do not have enough information about the fact that warighiti used or did not use black magic to heal. Is there any association between warighiti and wasawi? Or is it all black magic?

Just how important is kidawida to you? How are you helping in preserving the language and the culture? Most of the kids or even adults who live in the towns can not communicate in kidawida. What are we doing about it? Are we making any effort to teach our kids the language? If we are making any effort that is. I think the whole concept of culture, language and traditions is slowly eroding in Kenya. Intermarrying is not an issue, as a matter of fact it should be encouraged, but if we are not careful, soon we will be like the western countries- without culture and traditions. We should not let that happen

No new posts Priest's take on the gay society- blame it on the woman

I was very shocked when a priest in Malindi blamed women for ''making men turn gay''. It is amazing how people who have the power/charge to influence the society with the sunday summons can utter such words. How are women to blame? That women have failed on their role as wives has led men turning to other men for companionship?? How insane! What of the gay women? Who is to blame then?

No new posts Raila's subsidy to the poor? Can this work?

Raila's new ''great idea'' of giving hand outs to kenyas in slums is yet another one of those meant to fail programmes started. I do agree that Kenya has one of the highest number of poor people, but handouts will not solve poverty.

1.What criteria did they use or are they going to use to select the said number of people?

2.How sure are they that the people they picked are the poorest in the community?

3.Mpesa will be used for the hand outs. But if somone can afford to buy a cellphone, does that person fall under the poor to the core criteria?

4.What about the poor who do not own cell phones?

5.What about the very very poor people living in smaller towns?

6.What about the very poor people living in the village? We know majority of the poor live in the villages

7. Who is funding this? Is this yet another hole deeper into the debt hole?

I don't think this will work. Just like CDF money, this will never reach the people who really need it. I totally disgree with this idea.

No new posts Cabinet at Last

Finally the coalition cabinet was named yesterday. It is no suprise that PNU has managed to retain the ministries that both parties were fighting for. It is a shock however for the ordinary kenyan, with all that has been happening to Kenya's economy, now we have to dig deeper into our pockets to pay for the extra ministries that have been created. Now we can truly say that baby kissers are really selfish individuals.
So what do you guys think about the new cabinet? 7 women ministers is a slap on the face.

No new posts 7 women in the new cabinet is surely a slap on the face

During election campaigns, all the parties promised to give more chance to women if they won. Now that they have created 40 ministries, naming only seven women ministers is a slap on the face to the kenyan woman. 15 women would have made more sense, or atleast 12. But 7?I believe we have many women who have the capability of running a ministry better than some of the ministers named in the new cabinet.Talk is talk...and talk is really cheap!! Thats why our politicians can afford to say anything they want and get away with it...What do wadawida women feel about this?

No new posts Members of Parliament should not be Ministers

The best way to stop the hunger for power amongst in the kenyan political scene is to pass a law that says Ministers should not be MP's.The parliament be given more power. MP's to be voted by people, while Ministers should be appointed or selected by the parliament. Ministerial positions should be advertised like any other positions in government. The candidates should be vetted by the parliament, then after thorough vetting and scrutiny, the ministers selected in parliament. However, the ministry should be under parliament. The ministers must be answerable to the parliament. That way we the voters have a watchdog who we elect at the grassroot. The parliament should have the powers over ministers and should be able to fire and hire new ministers. The current system we have now makes other MPs who are voted like any other MPs feel more superior than others just because they are made ministers. Hence there is nobody to really act as a watchdog for the voters.
I think creating such a law that puts ministers under parliament would work better for kenya now. Ministers would work more knowing that they are answerable to parliament. This law is way overdue, and it is the best way to go

The recent removal of Mwatela from CBK left many people bruised, especially the dawida community. Many think it is political, but is it? What is the real story behind the sage? We can speculate all we want, but will we ever know the truth? Our MP's should come out strong to defend their own. She is amongst the few people from Dawida who hold high civil positions.

We can jivunia an assistant minister from dawida. Though our hopes were for a minister, its still great that we got an assistant minister. Many at times my friends complain about this ''hatred'between them and their mother in laws. Is it that mothers feel that no woman is good enough for their sons? Is it control behaviour from the mother's side? Is it utterly pure jelousy from the wife's side?

After the dating days are gone when all the pleasing and impressing is past, the gift part is also shelved away. This happens in many relationships. But giving each other gifts goes a long way in boosting your relationship. Gifts are a way to appreciate the other person. A gift could be making packing lunch for your spouse, doing the simple things that you would not normally do. We do not need money to buy expensve gifts. I think gifts mean something in a relationship especially when it comes to women. What's you say?

No new posts What is going on?

has anyone been watching Taita lately? I have..there is a time bomb that will explode soon, or rather is exploding now. What is happening with our people? What has happened to our morals? We are sleeping with anyone who cares to spread their legs..we are having numerous affairs without any care in the world about HIV and Aids. Women are sleeping with boys as young as their sons, and man with girls are young as their grand kids. What is going on in Dawida? What people do not understand is the fact that they are just sleeping with each other: mother sleeps with a young boy who then sleeps with his daugther; fathers sleeping with young women who then sleep with their sons, at the end of the day we are all sleeping with each other aren't we? No wonder there is a very alarming rate of HIV and Aids related diseases in the past few years. So many people still have the mentality that HIV can not be real, or atleast it's just in the big towns and cities. The village girl thinks the village boy could not be infected; just the town boy, hence no need to protection..the town boy thinks there is no way a village girl could be infected; no need for protection either..and thats how we are dying.Out of ignorance.
We have a duty to help one another. I owe it to my fellow Wadawida and to myself to educate Wadawida about this disaster that is about to strike the whole Taita out if we do not act soon.
It's time to act now...

No new posts Kiss on a first date? :p-

I have been following a very interesting discussion at my work place. Well, I mean I know as per our african culture people never used to kiss or even meet when they were courting. But those were old days.Things have changed now. People meet on the first day, like each other kiss, jump into bed and get married. Some can say we have no morals anymore, some say its the modern way. What do you think? Can you meet-kiss-marry the first day?

No new posts Size 6 or 18

It seems like the kenyan brothers are making the kenyan sisters starve themselves to death. Everywhere you go women are striving to be size 6, like the models they see on television. Our brothers have clearly indicated that to be considered sexy you have to be a small size.I personally think a woman should be round figured..hehehe..with some little nyama....so please make it clear to us, our dear brothers..why are you making us shade off that round figure for a size 6?

What would make a person cheat on their spouse? Is it the boredom? It is getting tired of routine? Men are said to cheat more on their partners than women. Though I do not think that is the case.I still do not understand why anyone would cheat on their spouse. Why would you cheat?

No new posts Why do we shy away from bedroom talks?

People talk about everything, except their bedrooms. Why do we live in such a closed society? Why are not free to talk about these things openly? Why are we able to talk about our jobs, children, family but not this important issue? Some people say the church has alot to do with this. I am not sure I agree with that point. Most churches teach people to abstain from sex till they are married, but the same religions do not teach them how to be once they enter matrimonial life. I think they should take the same initiative to encourage people to talk freely about sex once they are married.
Many marriages break down because of bedroom problems. If only people would talk freely about it, so many of them could be saved.
So help me understand why we shy away from bedroom talks?

No new posts Sex ?..or should we abstain before marriage?

This is an interesting topic I must say. People should be encouraged to abstain, especially our youth. But it should not be forced down on their throats I think.Abstaining creates challenge and excitement.
However,it can also be a bad thing. People argue that they would like to know their sexual compatibility before they get married.Which I think is a good thing. I say it's a personal choice. Both sides have advantages and disadvantages I can say.

No new posts We need to talk to the youth!!

With all the hype on TV and every information available on internet, we really need to talk to our youth. Young people are finding themselves in situations that they would have avoided if only someone talked to them. We have all sorts of addictions amongst our young people. Drugs, prostitution, pornography, name it. We can ignore it all we want, but I think we need to take up the responsibility of taking and guiding the youth. Schools can not do it alone.
Many parents,if I can say upto 80% of them never ever talk with kids, and when they do they are just giving instructions. We got to talk, and when I say talk I mean have a mature conversation with them. They go through alot in school, with their peers, we should be the people to clarify things for them. 90 % of people from age 15 are sexually active, something that parents want to ignore, but it is happening. We have to talk to them or else we will loose the next generation to HIV, addictions and all the bad vices in this world!!

They say once someone is married they can forget about romance. People do so much, go out of their way to please their spouses when they are dating..but all that dissapears as soon as they say I do. It could go on for a few years, but with time it dwindles. What happens? Why do people suddenly stop trying to please their partner? What happens to romance when people say I do?

No new posts What draws older men to very young girls!!!

I have been asking myself this question for years now. I have never been able to get an answer. The other day while having chit chat with my workmates, some did finally shade light on this topic. Apparently, there is whole lot more than we know about this issue. Some argued its the bodies. Younger girls are more hard or tight whatever you call it. Their bodies and skins are still very tight and they do not have the ''tyres'' and the love handles. But it still didn't answer my question. What really draws older men to younger girls?

With the inter tribal/racial/religion relationships that we see these days...I am left wondering. How important is your religion and belief when it comes to your relationship. Does it count? Why? If it doesnt count, why not? Would you break up a very good relationship because you differed in religion? Would you change your religion? Would you be flexible enough to accept your spouse's different religious beliefs?

1. Trust
2.Honesty
3Patience.

But I could be wrong. What, in your opinion makes your relationship successful?

What is happening? Are we too small for ISP's? Why did Posta stop the internet services in Wundanyi?

No new posts Our beautiful Dawida

I have travelled the world, but I must admit that Dawida is one of the most beautiful places we have in our Kenya. The beautiful forests, the water falls, the wildlife, all these things that we Wadawida take for granted.I think Dawida has enough potential to ''discover'' yet another source of generating income for the locals. We have very beautiful tourist attraction sites. Our own Vuria and Iyale are enough. All we need to do is construct small camping places for visitors. We have many picnic places, we have many waterfalls, and hiking places. We have picnic places. I think we should do something about this...take advantage of the natural resources that God gave us..and who knows, one day Dawida will be famous for having the highest number of tourists going camping in their beautiful hills.

No new posts How does the Taita Community benefit from Tsavo?

More than 50% of Dawida land is taken up by Tsavo National park. The rest is taken up by the sisal estate, and the little left is not enough for the community. Just like the Maasai people have control of Maasai Mara, i think the taita should also fight to get control of Tsavo. At least the part that is in taita land. People could benefit, the money could be used to repair roads, dig water wells, build more schools, improve the life of the people of the community. We are too laid back, we do not fight for our rights. If we can not get control of the park, then maybe we should at least get 50 % of the income from Tsavo.
Same thing should be applied in the mining industry. People come to mine in our land, when done they leave the quarries and the land useless. I think we wadawida should fight for this. The mining companies should be forced to give back to the society, even something as small as 5% of their annual income. They could repair roads, etc.. We need to get up from our comfort zone and fight for dawida!!!

No new posts Free Education a disaster!!

Even though many kids have benefited from the free education politcy, i think the education quality has gone down. Schools especially public ones are just a mess. The ratio of teacher student is way above what they can handle. The attention that was given to individual students is now gone. The teachers have cope with a burden of too much work. Don't get me wrong, it was the best things to happen, but the government need a better plan for this to work and benefit anyone. They need to hire more teachers and pay them better to maintain them in public schools. If something is not done, the kids will get poor quality education

No new posts Africans can't shoot Olympics arrows!

CHARLES ONYANGO-OBBO- Nation Media Group
It is still early days in the Olympics and – how shall we put it? – Africa’s performance in the Games is still “young”.
When I last checked, no African country had won a gold yet. The highest placed country from the continent was Zimbabwe, with three silvers.
Algeria had one bronze. And Togo one. Nothing surprising there, as we are still going through the sports where Africa has no pedigree – gymnastics, rowing, cycling, weight-lifting, archery, fencing, equestrian events, and so forth.

When it comes to track events, the story will change.

Kenya, Ethiopia and Morocco will clean out most of the middle- and long-distance running events, and climb into the top half of the medals tally.
The middle classes in Africa don’t produce great sportsmen and women, so most people from working and peasant backgrounds who cannot afford to participate in any sports where you need to join a club dominate sports.
So we excel in football, which young Africans master by kicking home-made fibre balls in the village square.
Excellence in running says something about our politics.
We are always running – running away from the anti-riot police; running away from thieves; women constantly running away from rapists; fleeing armed conflict or persecution and ending up as refugees in neighbouring countries and exiles in faraway lands.
And daily, people flee the poverty of the rural areas for the deceptive lights of the cities.
You would have thought we would be good at weight-lifting. Wrong. Too many people are going hungry in Africa, so, rightly, it would not have been proper to squander food on a few fellows so they can go lift weights in Beijing.
What puzzles me most is that Africa doesn’t dominate archery. Definitely, no other continent uses bows and arrows for primary purposes as much as Africa.
In many African cities, you meet hundreds of security guards armed with bows and arrows going to protect the homes of the well-off members of society.
And bows and arrows are still used as weapons in conflicts, the way they were used in other parts of the world in ancient times.
Take the post-election violence in Kenya early this year.
In the Rift Valley, arrows were deployed to deadly effect. It is a mystery that from all these security guards and arrow warriors, this continent can’t find a single man or woman to go to the Olympics and claim gold.
Zimbabwe, which is Africa’s best performer at this point, owes its silvers mostly to its white citizens, ironically special targets of Robert Mugabe’s repression.

No new posts Homosexualityi In Kenya

With all the western influence managing our kenyan lives, what happens now. In the past years we have seen many gay people both men and women come out openly. They even had a demonstration once to stand up for their rights. Shocking as it may sound, some people are already observing animal behaviour just to prove that animals are also gay, and it is the way of nature. I do not have any bad feeling about the gay people, as a matter of fact I have respect for all human beings regardless of their sexual preference.I am just asking how you think and feel about this gay issue in kenya. Can religion and african culture adopt and accept that? What would you do if one of your famil member was gay?

No new posts Why aren't we blessed with snow? Isn't taita hills cold enough for snow?

I couldn't help envy those fellows in Nyahururu who had the chance to play in snow. You could see the excitement and life in their faces when they finally had the experience of snow. I think they would have loved to skate and ski as well. It was such an envious experience for the fellows in the area. I used to think Taita hills is a very cold place, especially Mgange Nyika and Vuria. There were times when the cold was always misty and wet. In the 80's Mgange used to be cold. But isn't it cold enough to snow? I sure would love to ski in Vuria and Iyale :-)
Maybe mother nature is not on our side :-)
